43 mayors leave PDT in CE after fight between Ciro and Cid

The fight between the brothers Cid and Ciro Gomes in Ceará gained a new chapter with the announcement on Tuesday (14.Nov.2023) of the departure of 43 mayors from the PDT, the party of the 2. The decision was taken during a meeting of mayors with Cid , who, due to a court decision, returned to command of the acronym.

On the list of mayors who decided to leave the party is Cid and Ciro’s younger brother and mayor of Sobral, Ivo Gomes. The city is considered a stronghold of the Gomes family in the State.

The crisis between the brothers escalated last week after PDT Nacional confirmed the intervention and removed Senator Cid from command of the party in the State. Subsequently, the Court once again gave command to Cid. In addition, the party also canceled requests for consent granted by the congressman to politicians, so that they could leave the party if they wanted.

The main cause of disagreement between politicians is the alliances with the PT (Workers’ Party), of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), in the 2024 municipal elections.

Ciro Gomes defends that the party has a pure ticket in the dispute for the re-election of José Sarto to the mayor of Fortaleza. Cid, on the other hand, is in favor of a PT vice-mayor.

The disagreement between the two makes Cid accuse the national directory of “persecution”, since the party is led by federal deputy André Figueiredo, an ally of Ciro.
