Tourist activities in Minas Gerais record an increase of 17.5% in 2023, which places the state in the national leadership in volume variations in the sector in the year. In September alone, Minas Gerais tourism increased 2.1%. The data are from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released in the Monthly Services Survey.
Minas Gerais indicators are above the national average. During the year, Brazil recorded a 7.9% increase in the sector’s volume.
On the list, after Minas, the states of Bahia (13.9%), Paraná (12.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (11.8%) were also highlights. On the other hand, the Federal District (0.2%) and Ceará (1.0%) showed modest growth in the year.
What has boosted the tourism sector, according to IBGE, are the revenues obtained by car rental companies, hotels, air transport, catering services, restaurants, travel agencies, and road passenger transport. Overall, the tourism sector is 4.5% above the pre-pandemic level (February 2020).
