Famasul (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Mato Grosso do Sul) released its Weekly Rural House Bulletin, indicating new reports on the state’s crops.

According to the survey, planting of the 2023/24 soybean harvest reached a level of 78% in the state, behind the 82.2% in the same period of the last harvest and the 81.3% average of the last five years.

“The delay in soybean planting during this period is marked by low rainfall in the northern region. This delay could have several implications, including the possibility of impacting the 2nd harvest corn planting window”, explains the report.

To date, Famasul estimates a 6.5% growth in the area planted with soybeans this season, reaching 4.265 million hectares and recording production of 13.818 million tons, after an estimated productivity of 54 bags per hectare.

“Although the delay in soybean planting may have an impact, there is still potential for a successful corn harvest”, point out Famasul technicians.

Looking at the conditions of the crops, 95.2% were classified as in good condition, 4.6% as fair and just 0.1% as poor.

“It is worth remembering that, historically, planting ends in the first week of December. To minimize the negative impact of this delay in planting, producers must pay attention to monitoring weather conditions and make adjustments to strategies. These adjusted details minimize the negative impact of this delay”, concludes the publication.

On the market side, Famasul highlights that the average price of a 60-kilo bag of soybeans in Mato Grosso do Sul increased by 2.12% in the week between November 6th and 13th, being quoted at an average value of R$ 128 .00.
