The State Department of Health (SES-TO) will hold the 3rd Meeting of Tocantins Ostomates on the 16th, with the aim of promoting the exchange of experiences and presenting new information to patients, family members and professionals. The event will take place in Palmas, in the Sebrae auditorium, starting at 8am.

A person with an ostomy is someone who had to undergo a surgical intervention to create an opening or alternative path of communication in the body with the outside environment, for the exit of feces or urine, as well as to assist with breathing or eating.

Colostomy Bags in TO

In Tocantins, approximately 400 ostomized patients are monitored at Specialized Rehabilitation Centers (Palmas and Araguaína) and Specialized Rehabilitation Service (Porto Nacional and Colinas). In 2022, when the current management regularized the delivery of items, almost six thousand colostomy bags were distributed and this year 28,387 have already been delivered.

The Unified Health System (SUS) is responsible for distributing collection and safety equipment in centers and services, which provides guidance on the handling of colostomy bags, fixed to the ostomy opening. The items are fundamental to patients’ autonomy.
