The former federal deputy for Sergipe, João Fontes, was on the plane whose engine exploded and caught fire last Sunday, the 12th. No injuries were reported, the aircraft pilot made an emergency landing in Bahia.
According to the deputy, the flight left Salvador bound for São Paulo, but shortly after takeoff, the engine exploded.
“We were at 10,000 feet when the engine exploded and the wing was covered in fire, flames, an incredible blaze of fire, and the plane was shaking from one side to the other. Thank God, a very good pilot, the guy managed to throw away the gasoline and landed on his right wing. It was a struggle, I wouldn’t wish what we went through on anyone,” he said.
According to João Fontes, the airline claimed that the aircraft collided with a bird, causing the right engine to explode. He disagrees with the version presented by the company, given the immediacy of the response, and believes that the situation was caused by a lack of maintenance.
“They invented this to avoid liability, but the engine exploded due to lack of maintenance. Our airlines are a tragedy, it’s horrible, all these flights are without adequate maintenance, a sad thing, we saved ourselves from this with God’s help, I have no doubt about that, none”, he added.
