Rio – The presence of the National Force in the state of Rio de Janeiro was extended until January 31st of next year. The information was confirmed by the Minister of Security, Flávio Dino, on Tuesday night (14). According to Dino, on this new date an analysis will be carried out for a possible extension. “Additional teams from the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police will also remain in the state. And the Armed Forces continue to execute the GLO decreed by President Lula”, the minister published on his social networks.
The National Force arrived in Rio on October 17, following a request from the state governor, Cláudio Castro. One of the factors that led to the release of the agents was an investigation by the Civil Police that revealed the armed training, with war tactics, of criminals in Complexo da Maré, in the North Zone of Rio. The advancement of the militia’s operations in the state also motivated the reinforcement approval.
In total, the force that reinforces policing on federal highways is 545 federal agents, 240 from the Federal Highway Police, and 305 from the National Force. In addition to the National Force men, the Ministry of Security allocated R$247 million as an investment for Rio’s security and 50 National Force vehicles.
The National Force is a Federative Cooperation Program of the Federal Government managed by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The purpose of the program is the preservation of public order, the safety of people and property and action in emergencies and public calamities. The National Force is not part of the Armed Forces and is made up of military police, fire departments, civil police and forensic professionals.
The National Force can be used in any part of the national territory with authorization from the Ministry of Justice. It acts in accordance with requests from state governors or state ministers to support a state entity or a federal entity. All operators undergo training and qualification called Knowledge Leveling Instruction.
