A 55-year-old man had to dig his own mother’s grave after realizing, during the burial, that the space opened by the cemetery’s gravedigger was insufficient for the coffin. The hole did not have the necessary width or depth. The case occurred on Saturday (November 11) in the city of Periquito, in the Rio Doce Valley, in Minas Gerais.
The Military Police (PM) were called. In testimony, the man reported that his mother passed away on Friday (10). He stated that he had told the gravedigger at the cemetery that he needed a grave ready for burial on Saturday. However, during the farewell, he realized that the space was not suitable for the urn.
In addition to the lack of width and depth in the grave, there was another coffin buried in the same place. When questioned, the gravedigger reported that the cemetery was full and there was no other space available. The man also mentioned the report of a person in charge of the city hall.
According to him, there was no space available in the cemetery. This response generated tension among the relatives, who began looking for a place in the cemetery where it would be possible to dig a grave with enough space.
The report contacted Periquito City Hall to obtain a position on the case and is awaiting feedback.
