The Brazilian Football Confederation responded to a request from the clubs and promoted changes to Brazil’s transfer windows for 2024 – which now corresponds to the European calendar. The dates were confirmed by ge by CBF.
- 1st period: January 11, 2024 to March 7, 2024
- 2nd period: July 10, 2024 to September 2, 2024
The change was a long-standing request from the clubs because the second window of the season was ending before the European calendar, leaving Brazilian teams at risk of losing athletes without the possibility of replacement.
At the end of 2022, clubs such as Palmeiras, Fortaleza and América-MG – interviewed by ge during the period – requested adjustments to the dates, because the windows were closing with the ongoing South American competitions.
– The window for the arrival of athletes only started on July 18, although the competition calendar is shorter, due to the World Cup. The discussion about the calendar is essential so that the windows for players to leave abroad have a smaller impact – Palmeiras football director Anderson Barros said at the time.
REMEMBER: Brazilian football transfer window ends
In practice, in 2024, there will be two periods of eight weeks for signings – the first transfer period being shorter than recent years and the second longer.
Brazil’s transfer window has been ongoing since the 2022 season, when it was first implemented, following an order from FIFA. The periods cover national and international transfers to Brazilian Series A and B clubs, but do not apply to futsal or women’s football in the country.
At the end of the periods, players without a contract can still sign, but only if they terminated their last contract before the closing of one of the windows. In addition to these scenarios, FIFA allows exceptions for: athletes who terminated their contract through the Pelé Law and situations included in exceptions determined by FIFA in the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.
