RN had an above normal temperature in September

In the month of September, some cities in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte recorded temperatures above 40ºC in the Seridó region, when the historical maximum normal average was 36°C, according to the Monitoring System of the Agricultural Research Company of Rio Grande of the North (Emparn).

For November, which tends to be a dry and hot month, the forecast is that thermometers in Rio Grande do Norte will reach temperatures above normal for the period, as has been happening in the Northeast of Brazil, due to the El Ñino phenomenon.

Temperatures above 35°C are considered normal for this month, in the interior of the state. The action of the winds between the regions of the country, in the coming days, will determine the arrival of the heat wave in the state.

“The heat wave that began to affect Brazil this week is gradually spreading as high pressure is acting in the central region of South America. Depending on the performance of winds and other weather systems in the coming days between the states of Minas Gerais , Bahia and Piauí, the population of Rio Grande do Norte may feel the increase above normal in the middle of next week. It is too early to say that this wave will arrive in Rio Grande do Norte”, assesses the head of Emparn’s meteorology unit, Gilmar Bristot.

The El Ñino phenomenon is the abnormal warming of the waters of the Pacific Ocean, causing an increase in rain and floods in the South and Southeast regions of Brazil and drought in the Northeast. According to experts, its effects should continue in RN until the first half of 2024.

The country will face an extreme heat wave this week that will mainly affect the Central-West and Southeast regions, according to the company MetSul.

The estimate is that there will be a record breaking of high odds, reaching up to 10⁰C to 15⁰C above climatology history.
