The Santa Catarina Civil Police, together with the support of the São Paulo and Maranhão Police, launched the False IPVA operation this Thursday (9).
22 search and seizure warrants were executed, 18 in Imperatriz and one in São Luis, both in the state of Maranhão. Two others were in São Vicente and one in São José dos Campos, in São Paulo.
Criminals created a fake DETRAN/SC website to offer discounts on paying IPVA through PIX. In turn, the victims ended up falling because they considered the conditions very attractive and paid the vehicle’s IPVA using the PIX key provided on the fake website.
The deposits were directed to shell companies run by criminals in the state of Maranhão. More than 200 people were victims of this scam in the state of Santa Catarina and it is estimated that the damage exceeds the value of R$ 100 thousand.
