“Cinematic” escape ends with car in lake and seizure of almost a ton of marijuana in SC

Three people were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking on Wednesday night (8) in Caxambu do Sul, in the west of Santa Catarina. According to police, one of the suspects drove his truck into a lake, with the aim of escaping from the team. About a ton of marijuana was seized.

According to the Civil Police, the situation began after a man, who was driving a truck in the region, did not comply with the team’s order to stop during an integrated operation to combat border crimes. The driver, in order to escape the barrier, drove over a ferry and threw the vehicle into the lake at Usina Foz Chapecó.

The suspect then got out of the car and swam to another vehicle that was supporting the escape and was occupied by two people. However, two men, aged 23 and 33, and a woman, aged 25, were approached and detained.

Also according to the police, divers from the Concordia Volunteer Fire Department and the Concordia Tactical Group were called to help remove the truck from the river. The city of Caxambu do Sul also provided a machine for the rescue.

Inside the car, the team found 776 kilos of marijuana. Furthermore, according to the police, there were signs that the vehicle had been reported stolen/robbery, and had cloned license plates.

The vehicles, the trio and the drugs were sent to the Chapecó Police Duty Center (CPP). The Federal Highway Police (PRF), Military Highway Police (PMRv), Military Police, Concordia Tactical, Civil Police, Saer and GAECO assisted in the action.
