In Mato Grosso do Sul, 95.1% of people used the internet every day in 2022. The number was released this Wednesday (9) by IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and concerns those who had access at home, both fixed and mobile data. In addition to the internet, the PNAD (National Household Sample Survey) investigates access to television. The study takes into account the possession of these materials by people aged 10 and over.

The remainder, 2.8%, claimed to use it one to four times a week; 1.4% almost every day and only 0.7% used it less frequently than once a week. The survey shows that 93.6% of households had internet in the State in the period mentioned. In total, 942 thousand people used the technological resource. In comparison with 2016, the number of households without internet access was 65 thousand, compared to 212 thousand.

In six years, the percentage of those using mobile broadband increased from 78.9% to 88.1%, from 2016 to 2022. The percentage of households using fixed broadband increased from 67.9% to 87.8 %.

When it comes to where the access comes from, the number of cell phones with mobile data has grown. The percentage of those using mobile broadband increased from 78.9% to 88.1%, from 2016 to 2022. In 2016, 46.7% of households used fixed and mobile bands combined and, in 2022, this percentage increased to 76%. In contrast, the number of microcomputers and tablets decreased from 45% in 2016 to 41.6% in 2022.

Utility – 95.9% of people claimed to use the internet for video calls. The second most reported purpose of using the Internet was to send or receive text, voice or image messages through applications other than email, 91.8%.

Other purposes of use mentioned were: watching videos, programs, series and films, 91.2%; listening to music, radio or podcast 87.1%; use social networks 85.6%; read newspapers, news, books or magazines 78.4%; access banks or other financial institutions 69.5%; and sending or receiving emails 65.9%.

Landlines and Television – From 2016 to 2022, use of conventional landline telephones decreased by 71% in Mato Grosso do Sul. As for television, the number of people with more modern devices increased. In 2022, of the 838 thousand with a device at home, 83 thousand still have a tube television. Mato Grosso do Sul appears in thirteenth place in relation to households with a thin-screen television and tube television appears in fifteenth.

During the period, 7.7% of households that had a TV did not receive analog or digital signals, of the 846 thousand households that received signals (89.7%). The numbers leave the state in nineteenth place, compared to other units of the federation on the subject.

Radio – One of the oldest means of communication, radio was heard in 51.8% of households in the State in 2022, the year in which radio completed 100 years in Brazil. In the rural sector, 53.3% of households had a radio, a slightly higher percentage than in the urban sector. The state is in fifteenth place in terms of having a radio in the home.
