A manifesto signed by more than 60 deputies from left-wing parties (PT, PSOL, PCdoB and Rede) demands “urgent ceasefire” in the conflict between Israel and Hamas (photo) without mentioning, at any point, the massacre of 1,400 civilians and the kidnapping of more than 220 by the terrorist group.
“Today, November 8th, marks one month since Israel began bombing the Gaza Strip”says the first sentence of the text — as if nothing had happened on October 7, the date of the massacre committed by Hamas, the day before the start of the Israeli military response.
The leftist parliamentarians’ manifesto also calls Israel’s action a “genocide”echoing previous statements by Lula (PT), and repeats the number of “more than 10 thousand dead” in Gaza as published by the terrorist group that controls the enclave.
He also advocates that Brazil call its ambassador to Tel Aviv “for consultations” —diplomatic gesture of displeasure— and that it does not promulgate the military and security cooperation agreements signed by Jair Bolsonaro with Israel, on the same day that the Mossad assisted the Brazilian PF in the arrest of two suspected of working for Hezbollah.
Read the full manifesto below, with the names of the deputies who signed it.
“Today, November 8th, marks one month since Israel began bombing the Gaza Strip. As President Lula said, nothing can justify this genocide: more than 10,000 people have already been killed in Gaza, around half of them children. Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed and the entire population suffers from illegal and inhumane restrictions on access to water, food, energy and internet. At the UN, the vast majority of countries approved a resolution calling for an urgent ceasefire, but Israel declared that it has no intention of stopping and intensified attacks against the Palestinian people. In this context, the action of the international community is of paramount importance, so that:
1. We echo the call for an urgent ceasefire and the guarantee of humanitarian corridors that allow aid to enter the population of Gaza and the exit of Brazilians there;
2. We urge the Brazilian government to act energetically to end genocide, occupation and apartheid, in defense of respect for international law and UN resolutions;
3. We ask the Brazilian government to call the Brazilian ambassador to Israel for consultations and not to promulgate the military and security cooperation agreements signed by Bolsonaro with Israel.
