The city of Rio, through the Secretariat of Science and Technology (SMCT), inaugurated, on Tuesday, the city’s first Satellite Spacecraft. Located at Ciep Dr. Nelson Hungary, in Paciência, in the West Zone, the equipment creates spaces for digital inclusion, technological innovation and internet access for the population.

The unit will also generate qualifications for young people and adults in information technologies, with free courses, workshops and workshops for integration into the job market.

With the Satellite Ships, SMCT seeks to expand multipurpose and interactive spaces to accelerate and encourage the digital, scientific and technological training of the population of the city of Rio. The new Satellite Ships expand the content and activities that the Knowledge Ships provide to other regions. already offer successfully. The expectation is that the Satellite Ship will serve around 450 people per month. Two more units are also planned to be implemented in the West Zone later this year.

– This project is important because it expands the Ships of Knowledge. We need to bring technology closer to people’s homes. To achieve this, we created this Satellite Ships project. They are smaller ships, taking advantage of the structure of the Cieps libraries. With smaller ships, we will be able to spread more units throughout the city, giving people more and more access to technology. After all, technology is changing the world, so we need to facilitate and democratize access for everyone – said the Secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque.

Satellite Ships Project

The Naves Satélites project involves the renovation of libraries originally built as an annex to the main Cieps buildings and, with the support of the Department of Education, creates environments with resources that enable different audiences to access and learn how to use digital media tools.

Initially, the Learning to Move in the World courses will be available. Whatsapp, Basic Excel and IT for the First Job. Two workshops will also be offered to users of the unit: How to Not Fall for Scams on the Internet and WhatsApp for your Business. The activities entitle participating students to a certificate.

The Nave Satellite will serve the general public, from Monday to Friday, from 8am to 5pm, and on Saturdays, from 8am to 2pm. The location has space with computers for free internet access with guidance from a user support team. Student at Ciep Dr. Nelson Hungary, Davi Manuel, aged 9, celebrated the opportunity to have access to technology daily at his school.

– I want to learn many things, robotics, working with technology. I really want to come here every day so I can learn more.

Satellite Ship Environments

The unit has two floors and a total area of ​​330 m².

Learning area, table with capacity for 11 students, with bench for equipment and projection screen.

Lounge, an environment designed for the use of personal and reading devices, with a sofa and puffs.

Digital Comfort, individual spaces, consisting of hanging chairs and tablets for internet browsing.

Outdoor area, space with table and benches. Cine Nave will also be held outside the unit, showing films related to science, technology and innovation.
