Rio – The Civil Police arrested, this Wednesday (8), an app driver accused of raping his own granddaughter, a 16-year-old teenager, on Ilha do Governador, in the North Zone of Rio. The agents from the 37th DP (Ilha do Governador) located the suspect in the Tauá neighborhood and served a temporary arrest warrant issued by the Judiciary Duty.
The investigations began after the victim went to the police station, together with her mother, to report the rape. The teenager said that the driver pinned her down in her home and committed the abuse. The young woman resisted her grandfather’s attack, managed to free herself and escape. The man was found on Rua Eutíquio Soledade and taken to the district, where he is at the disposal of the Justice Department. Delegate Felipe Santoro da Silva highlighted the importance of victims reporting.
“The fact causes personal indignation in the victim and enormous social repudiation, since the accused was considered like a grandfather to the teenager. It is important that victims are encouraged to appear at police headquarters so that the police can identify the accused and arrest them, preventing the commission of new crimes of this nature. The negative psychological effects on victims of sexual crimes are devastating and sometimes irreparable, so, therefore, the arrest of these criminals is essential”, stated the head of the 37th DP.
