Hybrids are considered the shortest bridge to total electrification and for this reason they sell the image of being more economical. But we decided to help you see which are really the 10 most efficient in the city.
SEE TOO:
To do this, we used the updated table (in August 2023) of the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV), which follows the new Inmetro standards. Remember that this spreadsheet is a consumption reference. Depending on the way you drive, use the vehicle and maintain it, hybrids can even be more economical – as well as less.
It is also worth noting that the fact that it is a hybrid does not necessarily mean that it will be more economical than purely combustion models. Even more so when we talk about cars with mild-hybrid technology or even with more equipment, more powerful, heavier and less aerodynamic combustion engines.
See now the 10 most economical hybrids in Brazil in 2023. The classification was based on gasoline consumption in the urban cycle on average per km/l.
1. Kia Niro
- Urban consumption: 19.8 km/l
- Road consumption: 17.7 km/l
- Hybrid Type: Regular
- Electric motor: 44 hp

Kia’s compact SUV launched last year is the most economical hybrid in Brazil in 2023. According to the new measurement standards, the Niro averages almost 20 km/l in the city. The model combines the 1.6 aspirated engine from the Kappa family, with direct injection, a 44 hp electric motor and another small 48V engine, which acts as a generator.
Therefore, according to Kia Motors, the Niro is capable of traveling up to 58 km in 100% electric mode. The transmission is DCT, with dual clutch and six speeds. In terms of equipment, from the EX onwards it receives autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assistant, dual-zone automatic climate control, reversing camera, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and instruments integrated with multimedia on two 10” screens.

Launched in 2022 as a subscription car by Caoa Locadora, it began to be sold at Hyundai dealerships and recently had its price reduced by 25% – R$50,000.
Half crossover and half coupe, it is sold in Brazil with blind spot warning, tire pressure monitoring, electrochromic rear view mirror and automatic air conditioning with two independent zones. The Civic was no longer produced in Brazil and returned in a new generation this year and was electrified. Right away, it is already on the podium of the most economical hybrid cars in Brazil in 2023, thanks to its e:HEV system, which allows the car to run in three ways.
With a combustion engine and two other electric engines, the midsize sedan is capable of running in zero combustion mode. It also works as a hybrid, in which the electric unit feeds the batteries so that the main electric motor drives the wheels. Or even as a purely combustion vehicle.
Imported from Thailand, the Civic Hybrid is expensive, but quite complete. Highlights include Honda Sensing, with adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane keeping assistant, automatic high beams and blind spot sensor with images reproduced on the multimedia center.
