A 38-year-old man killed his sister-in-law, his nephew and his nephew’s daughter, aged 1 year and 10 months, this Wednesday morning (8), in the rural area of Jardim de Angicos, in the Central region of Rio Grande do Norte , according to the Military Police.
The case happened around 8 am in the Sítio Fazenda Nova district. The suspect fled after the crime and was not located until the last update of this article. According to the Military Police, he had two firearms.
The victims were identified as:
- Maria Betânia da Silva Lopes, 48 years old
- Ruhan Christian da Silva Lopes, age unknown
- Esther Rebeca Ferreira Lopes, 1 year and 10 months
“From what we heard here, it would be a family fight over inheritance. He didn’t get along with his brother and is a violent person,” said Sergeant José Francisco Lima, commander of the Military Police detachment in the municipality, who went to the scene of crime.
The Military Police contacted the Technical-Scientific Institute of Expertise (Itep) to carry out an examination of the crime scene and collect the bodies.
According to the sergeant, there had been a fight in the family involving inheritance for months. The suspect lived close to his sister-in-law’s house, who was being visited by his son and granddaughter, aged one year and two months.
“There was some argument and he killed his sister-in-law, his nephew and shot the child, who was still rescued, but did not resist. She died in the municipal hospital”, said the sergeant.
According to the police, the suspect’s brother had already filed a complaint against him. The commander also reported that the suspect already had a police record for the crime of illegal possession of a firearm.
