
Program offers more than 34 thousand opportunities to access higher education for students from low-income families.

The City of Manaus, through the School of Municipal Public Service and Socio-educational Inclusion (Espi), registered, until this Sunday morning (11), almost 46 thousand registrations for the University Scholarship Program (PBU) 2024. Participating in this process are: 15 Private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), offering more than 34 thousand opportunities to access higher education for students from low-income families.
The deadline to register is 10am this Monday (6). Linked to the Municipal Secretariat of Administration, Planning and Management (Semad), Espi, coordinator of the PBU, scheduled the release of the first call for those selected for November 30th. The link is https://sgbu.manaus.am.gov.br/inscricao.
Espi’s general director, Júnior Nunes, draws attention to candidates who have started to register, but who have not yet completed the process.
“We advise candidates to observe the registration completion message. We have more than 13 thousand people who have just started registering. They need to access the system again to complete the missing information and, in this way, be able to compete for scholarships. As advised by Mayor David Almeida, we have extended the registration closing date to enable all low-income people, who dream of pursuing a degree, to have access to private colleges with discounts on monthly fees, which can be full”, warns Júnior .
For PBU 2024, the city hall offers 880 100% scholarships; 6.3 thousand of 75%; and the remainder with a 50% discount on monthly fees, all with zero cost to the coffers of the municipality of Manaus. The options are for 74 higher-level courses, 38 of which are bachelor’s degrees, 6 are bachelor’s degrees and 30 are technology courses.
Criteria
To participate in the selection process, the candidate must be Brazilian, born or naturalized, resident in Manaus, with a per capita family income (per person residing in the property) not exceeding one and a half minimum wages (R$ 1,980), and be regularly enrolled or able to enroll in one of the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that partner with the program.
The candidate must also have completed high school or equivalent (or completed it by 12/13/2023) and not have a higher education diploma or be enrolled in a public HEI. Furthermore, beneficiaries of a degree program maintained by the public authorities or the private sector cannot participate.
