Could the game between Colombia and Brazil be postponed because of the kidnapping of a player’s father?

O ambassador of Colombia in England, Roy Barreras, asked that the game between Colombia and Brazilscheduled to November 16, does not occur before the release of player Luis Díaz’s father. The match, in Barraquilla, will be valid for the fifth round of the 2024 World Cup Qualifiers.

Faced with the plight of the attacker’s family, Barreras gathered around a hundred people and launched the appeal. In fact, the tone was demanding, considering that the situation is of extreme concern on the athlete’s part.

“From London we demand that the National Liberation Army release Lucho’s father and we demand that Colombia not play the match against Brazil, until liberation. We bring together football players, coaches and foundations as an instrument of peace to demand release”, he said.

Nine days of anguish for Luis Díaz

The kidnapping of Luis Díaz’s father completes nine days. On 10/28, Luis Manuel Díaz and Cilenis Marulanda, the athlete’s parents, were at a gas station in the city of Barrancas when the criminals took them. The next day, his mother was released. But the father remains in captivity.

Luis Días did not take part in the Liverpool game last week. But, for this Sunday’s duel, Liverpool x Luton Twon, he himself asked to train and join the squad. So, he stayed on the bench.

Guerrilla leader says kidnapping was a “mistake”

This Sunday (5/11), the leader of the National Liberation Army (ELN), Antonio Garcia, said that the guerrillas that kidnapped him (Northern War Front) should not have done that. And who works to have him released. The Front is a kind of sector of the ELN and, therefore, the statement sounds like a rebuke and increases expectations for a good outcome of the case.

“It was a mistake. Luis Díaz is a symbol of Colombia. That’s what we think of him in the ELN. We hope that the situation on the ground can be resolved. These are the guidelines that commanders must follow to speed up the release,” said Antonio Garcia .
