Tomorrow, the 6th, South Mato Grosso Literature Day is celebrated. To celebrate the date, an event will be held to mark the installation of a branch of the international literary entity PEN Clube in Mato Grosso do Sul, the first outside Rio de Janeiro, where the Brazilian headquarters are located. The event will be held at the OAB-MS amphitheater, starting at 7:30 pm, with a talk by writer Ricardo Cravo Albin, president of PEN Clube do Brasil. The State branch will be coordinated by writer, poet and cultural and peace activist Delasnieve Daspet, who took office in June as full member of PEN, an organization that brings together the greatest writers in the world.

PEN (short for Poets, Essayists and Novelists) is an international writers’ club founded on October 5, 1921 by English writer Catherine Amy Dawson Scott. The organization aims to promote literature, defend freedom of expression and establish a community of writers. In Brazil, founded in 1936 by the writer Cláudio de Sousa, as a cultural, non-governmental and non-profit association, PEN brings together writers and word professionals and has had and still has established affiliates in Brazilian literature, such as Guimarães Rosa, Manuel Bandeira, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, João Ubaldo Ribeiro, Paulo Coelho, Carlos Nejar, Antonio Carlos Secchin, Nélida Piñon, among others. Since 1949, PEN has acquired consultative status at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) as a representative of the world’s writers.

Delasnieve, was the proposer of the draft for the South Mato-Gross Literature Day (Laws nº 3,486 and 3,945), which will be celebrated on Monday, carried out, at the time, by former deputy Dione Hashioka. “There wouldn’t be a better day for this event, let’s pay homage to the literature of Mato Grosso do Sul and celebrate the installation of an entity that prioritizes the writer above all, that prioritizes their right to speak, to express themselves, their individual freedom”, sums up the writer.

Service: The event commemorating the Literature Day of Mato Grosso do Sul and the installation of the PEN Clube headquarters in Mato Grosso do Sul will be held tomorrow, November 6th, starting at 7:30 pm, in the amphitheater of the Brazilian Sectional Bar Association Mato Grosso do Sul (OAB-MS), at Av. Mato Grosso, nº 4,700. On the occasion, there will be a talk with Ricardo Cravo Albin, president of PEN Clube do Brasil. Support: Academia Feminina de Letras e Artes de Mato Grosso do Sul (Aflams) and Life Editora.
