Students from Alagoas participate in the first day of the National High School Exam (Enem) 2023 this Sunday (5). In Maceió, one of the city’s main roads, Avenida Fernandes Lima, registered heavy traffic in the early afternoon in the vicinity of Cepa, which has more than 10 test sites.

“This is the third time I’m taking the Enem. The first time, I knocked on the door of the course I want. I want law and I’m not going to give up. Every time I try, I want the law course. I give priority to studies, However, I work and I have a child. So I have to balance work, studies, child, education. I have to give priority to educating him, but I also have to study. Everything these days is for him. It’s thinking about him. The word giving up doesn’t exist for me,” he said.

Outside the test sites, street vendors take advantage of the opportunity to earn extra income. Maria de Lourdes Nascimento said that the movement before the tests was weak, but she hopes it will improve when the candidates leave.

“The movement is not very good, but I will stay here until the end and I intend to sell everything, in the name of Jesus. Whenever there is a test here, an election, we always come to work here to increase our income, because business is difficult. Today I brought sugarcane juice, passion fruit juice, guava juice with milk, flau, coxinha, popcorn. They all arrived with full bellies, but I believe that when they leave they will be very hungry, because doing these tests is not easy” .

The tests are administered in 26 municipalities in Alagoas. In total, there are 219 test locations and 2,719 application rooms in the state.
