The deadline for Minas Gerais to start issuing the new identity card ends this Monday

The Civil Police, the body responsible for issuing the Identity Card in Minas Gerais, reported that “it is taking all internal measures to comply with the deadline set out in the aforementioned Decree”

This Monday (6th) is the deadline for the state of Minas Gerais to start issuing the new identity card. In addition to the state of Minas Gerais, the document is suitable for use in Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pernambuco, Piauí, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

The Civil Police, the body responsible for issuing the Identity Card in Minas Gerais, informed Diário do Aço in a note that, “it is already taking all internal measures, and with the Data Processing Company of Minas Gerais (Prodemge) , to meet the deadline set out in the aforementioned Decree”.

In the Metropolitan Region of Vale do Aço, citizens will be able to request a new identity through the Integrated Service Unit (UAI) in Coronel Fabriciano and Ipatinga. It is worth mentioning that the old model is valid until February 28, 2032.

What changes
The new document does not have its own number and will only use the CPF to identify, reducing the possibility of fraud, according to the federal government.

The card will also no longer have a distinction between social name and civil registry name. This way, it will adopt the name to which the person declares themselves at the time of issuance, in addition to being printed without the field referring to gender.

The document will have a QR Code, which allows you to check its authenticity, as well as find out if it has been stolen or lost, using any smartphone. It also has an international standard code called MRZ, the same one used in passports, which makes it a travel document.
