After 36 years, Brazil once again won the gold medal in men’s football at the Pan American Games. And it was with emotion! On Saturday night, the 4th, the team beat Chile on penalties 4-2, after a 1-1 draw in normal time and extra time, and secured the title in Viña Del Mar.
Supported by more than 20 thousand fans at the Sausalito stadium, the Chileans opened the scoring with Guerrero, in the first half. In the final minutes of the match, Ronald equalized for Brazil with a header.
In extra time, there were practically no chances for both sides. Thus, the dispute went to penalties.
That’s when goalkeeper Mycael’s star shone. He saved one of the opponent’s shots, who wasted another, shooting wide.
On Brazil’s side, Figueiredo also missed the penalty. But after goals from Matheus Nascimento, Miranda and Ronald, it was up to Mycael to take the penalty that guaranteed the gold medal for Brazil.
The country returned to the highest place on the Pan American Games podium after 36 years. The last time was in Indianapolis, in 1987.
