MP investigates misuse of school by councilor in the interior of Alagoas
Upon learning that a councilor from the Municipality of Igaci, was, together with other people, drinking alcoholic beverages inside a municipal school, the Public Ministry of Alagoas (MPAL), through prosecutor Kleytionne Sousa, operating in the city of Igaci, initiated a procedure requesting that the City Hall and the municipal Secretary of Education provide information about the use of a school unit for leisure time by councilor Dery Ferreira and also provide clarifications about the non-operation of the school unit on Fridays.
Prosecutor Kleytionne Sousa had access to content published on a website in the capital where it is possible to view the image of the councilor participating in drunkenness inside the school accompanied by other people.
“As soon as we received the material, we initiated a procedure and sent a letter to City Hall, the municipal Department of Education and the City Council. We need to know who the school director is, who is responsible for surveillance and, consequently, the security of that educational establishment on the day of the incident. Furthermore, we ask that the presidency of the Chamber inform what measures have been or will be adopted if the parliamentarian has violated the house’s code of ethics or trampled on the rules that govern the moral conduct of public figures. We ask the councilor to present himself to this Public Prosecutor’s Office and provide clarifications about his conduct”, he explains.
After the statement from the official managers, the ministerial representative states that he will continue the procedures, adopting the measures that are appropriate to the fact.
In relation to the information contained in the report that there are no school hours on Fridays, the prosecutor requested information to take appropriate measures to guarantee the right to education:
“It is necessary for the Secretary of Education to explain this measure, if it has been adopted by the Municipality, since there is a school calendar, a curriculum to be followed, as it points to a possible prejudice and compromise in the right to education. So, the Public Ministry awaits justification, as the article stated that Igaci is the only municipality in Alagoas without classes on that day”, he concludes.
The councilor was summoned to appear at the Public Prosecutor’s Office on November 21, 2023, at 2 pm.
