Deputy suggested that polls were being manipulated in a union that would be related to the PT
The TSE (Superior Electoral Court) unanimously decided to fine R$30,000 to deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) for publications in which the congresswoman suggested that electronic voting machines were being manipulated by a union linked to the PT (Workers’ Party).
The ministers analyzed this Thursday (25.May.2023) a lawsuit filed by the Brasil da Esperança federation, which indicates that Zambelli’s publication contains false information and that could lead his followers to believe in the occurrence of fraud in the electoral process.
The deputy’s defense stated that she only disclosed the content, but did not add any false information.
“There was no illegality, but only the information that, due to the viralization of the video, the deputy asked for information to find out if there could be any illegality or not”said attorney Thiago Domingues.
The rapporteur of the case, Minister Benedito Gonçalves, considered that there was “bad faith” of the deputy when publishing the material, since a note from TRE-SP (Regional Electoral Court of São Paulo) denied the information in the video.
