Professors at the State University of Minas Gerais (UEMG) and the State University of Montes Claros (Unimontes) paralyzed their activities this Wednesday (24). The category claims that the government of Romeu Zema (Novo) carry out the appointment of professionals, make more investments and promote the review of the career plan.
During the morning, the teachers were in a public hearing that discussed the valuation of the category in the Commission of Education, Science and Technology of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG).
The day of mobilization is part of the National Week of Struggles of State Universities, convened by the National Union of Teachers of Higher Education Institutions in Brazil (Andes).

Process drags on
In April of this year, the ALMG had already organized a debate on the situation of teachers. Since the last public tender, held in 2017, only 13 of the 38 thousand approved were appointed by the state government. As a consequence, teachers report that they are working with precarious bonds.

During the meeting, a representative of the Secretary of Education of Minas Gerais said that a new notice would be published by May.
In November 2022, the topic was also discussed at a public hearing in the Minas Gerais parliament. At the time, in addition to the lack of appointments, servers at UEMG and Unimontes reported receiving up to three times less than professionals from other states, justifying the need to review the career plan.
