The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock announced the suspension of the manufacture and sale of the Leish-Tec vaccine, against the disease Leishmaniasis. The justification is to avoid risks to animal and human health. The decision applies to 8 batches of the vaccine and was taken after an inspection that identified the possibility of health risks.

Inspections take place in factories of veterinary products, on a routine basis. The objective is to verify manufacturing practices, quality control and reports of adverse events sent to manufacturers.

According to the folder, the manufacturing company has already started collecting the lots in question, which are: 29, 37, 43, 44 and 60, of 2022; and batches 004, 006 and 17 of 2023. These products have a protein content called A2, below the minimum required.

The so-called visceral leishmaniasis is an animal disease and causes a serious public health problem. This zoonosis is transmitted to animals and even humans through the bite of infected female insects. These vectors are popularly known as “straw mosquito, asa-dura, tatuquiras, birigui”, among others. In Brazil, the most common transmissions occur with sand flies.
