President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) met with the commanders of the Armed Forces at Palácio da Alvorada, this Thursday morning (11/24).
The meeting took place one day after the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, denied the action of the Liberal Party (PL) that contests the result of the second round of this year’s elections.
Ministers of the current government and General Walter Braga Netto, vice-president of Bolsonaro this year, were at the meeting. The information is from the newspaper Estado de S. Paulo.
Also present at Alvorada were some high-ranking military personnel: Marco Freire Gomes, commander of the Army; Almir Garnier, from the Navy; and Carlos de Almeida Baptista, from the Air Force.
The appointment was not on the president’s agenda. Generals heard by Estadão said that Bolsonaro intends to challenge Moraes’ decision by filing appeals with the TSE or the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
On Wednesday night (11/23), Moraes denied the PL’s request to annul the second round of the elections and condemned the party to pay a fine of R$ 22.9 million, in addition to blocking the party fund of the acronym and of Progressive and Republican allies.
