The Brazilian elections officially started this Saturday (1st), on the other side of the world – in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, 16 hours ahead of Brazil.

According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the first section was opened shortly after 8:00 am on Sunday in local time – which corresponds to 4:00 pm on Saturday, in Brasília.

Voting abroad follows the local time of each country and, therefore, the polling station will close at 5 pm on Sunday in Wellington – 1 am on Sunday in Brasília, when the election on Brazilian soil has not yet started.

The results will be sent to the TSE’s totaling room and released together with the votes registered in Brazil, starting at 5 pm this Sunday. The same will happen with all polling stations installed in countries with a more advanced time zone than Brazil.

As will be done in all other polling stations, the voting process began with the printing of the zerésima – a bulletin that attests to the fact that the ballot box is zero (no votes entered).

The document also indicates that 686 Brazilian voters are eligible to vote for Wellington. Brazilians who vote abroad can only register their vote for President of the Republic. See below:

Zeroth of the totalization was also issued

In the morning, the TSE carried out, in Brasília, steps to verify the electoral systems that will be used in the first round of elections.

Among the stages of this Saturday was the issuance of the zerésima of the system of totaling votes in the TSE. The zeroth is a printed report showing that there are no pre-computed votes.

Saturday’s procedures are part of the schedule for oversight of electoral systems — a series of tests and checks that ensure the transparency of the electoral process and that the systems used in the election are safe.
