The numerous records of aggression suffered by drivers that work in the joints of the BRT by users dissatisfied with the service offered by the city of Rio, through Mobi Rio, made the Transport Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the state (Alerj) to act on the defensive: to try to protect the physical integrity of these professionals, the president of the commission, deputy Dionísio Lins (Progressive), presented a bill that determines the implementation of a isolation cabin in all the articulated articles that currently circulate in the express aisles, as well as in the next ones that may be acquired.

The project also determines that transport companies located in the state, especially those that have articulated vehicleskeep at least one more employee inside, in addition to the driver, who will be responsible for controlling the payment of tickets with validators, as in Light Rail Vehicles (VLT), since today more than 90% of payments of the tickets are effected electronically.

According to the parliamentarian, the BRT system, opened in 2012, has been accumulating a problem history which include buses that break down during travel, lose their wheels en route, and catch fire from overheating. Many travel with the doors open, and users are forced to live daily with the lack of security and organization on the boarding platforms. O passenger discontent often causes the driver to be blamed for these problems.

“Today the BRT has 440 drivers and 107km of track spread over the three existing corridors, which are served by 190 articulated vehicles transporting 500,000 people daily. We have information from professionals who work there that every day 70 vehicles return to the garages without a hitch”, says Dionísio, adding that in the summer, when temperatures are high, this number rises to 110 vehicles. “According to these employees, the intense heat heats up the coolant, which, when it reaches 120° degrees, forces the driver to stop the articulated joint under penalty of causing a fire or melting the engine, since the maintenance of the BRT system is very poor“.
