A criminal armed with a firearm invaded a classroom on Thursday (22) and arrested students from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), at the Ministro Petrônio Portella campus, in the Ininga neighborhood, in the eastern part of Teresina.
The case took place at the Education Science Center (CCE) and at least 25 students from the 5th period of the pedagogy course were attending class when the man arrived and ordered everyone to pass their cell phones.
Students reported that the robber arrived saying good night and then immediately told everyone to lower their heads and ordered the teacher to collect their cell phones. The criminal was still frightening the students and the teacher, showing the firearm and saying that no one could leave the classroom. The man collected cell phones, jewelry and other belongings, and left leaving the students locked.
The students were only able to leave the room when the father of a student arrived and, together with the UFPI security guards, they managed to break the padlock used to lock the class. Since the return of face-to-face classes, UFPI has been the target of criminals and students feel insecure.

The Federal University of Piauí (UFPI) informs that it maintains permanent actions to ensure the safety of the academic community, not measuring efforts in this regard. On the Teresina campus, the Security and Surveillance Coordination works with almost 200 professionals, including unarmed and armed guards, effective and outsourced. At peak times, the actions intensify with two vehicles and three motorcycles that make rounds on the campus.
In addition, frequent patrols are carried out by Military Police vehicles, a partnership always valued by the current management of the University. The cleaning of spaces and roads and the maintenance of lighting are added to the actions aimed at the comfort and safety of the academic community.
UFPI regrets what happened at the Education Science Center (CCE) and sympathizes with its professors, students and technical-administrative servers, while reaffirming its commitment to continue working for the well-being of its audiences.
In this sense, measures are already being adopted, with measures such as: reinforcement of security activities on the campus; installation of a greater number of cameras at the University; intensified monitoring of access entrances to teaching units; dialogue with the State Government and competent bodies, such as the Military Police.
As a democratic space and with the Ministério Petrônio Portella Campus cut by several public roads in the city of Teresina, the UFPI clarifies that the measures adopted respect this context, valuing the dialogue with the representative spheres in the Institution and working in joint action with the of the security sector in the state.
