After a meeting between the police, transit and customs agencies, the rules for vehicle circulation were defined on the Brazil – Argentina international bridge in Uruguaiana (BR-290) while the works of the National Department of Infrastructure and Transport (Dnit) last. According to a statement from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) this Thursday (22), a “stop and go” operation will be carried out at the location, including for trucks.
Structural problems have been identified and intervention will be required
From 8 am to 11 pm, traffic will be interspersed every 30 minutes. In the Brazil – Argentina direction at busy times (8:00 am and 9:00 am, for example) and in the opposite direction, traffic will be released at broken times (8:30 am and 9:30 am). The rule applies to all types of vehicles.
Also according to the PRF, from 11 pm to 8 am, traffic will continue interspersed, but with no set time and only for light vehicles. The agency also states that it will strengthen security and inspection at the site, intervening whenever necessary.
The international bridge was inaugurated in 1947 and according to the SDAERGS and the National Federation of Customs Brokers (Feaduaneiros) it was already showing problems in its structure. Upon realizing that the situation of the bridge was worsened, with the breaking of a beam, the Argentine government blocked the passage of heavy vehicles. The ban took place between last Friday (16) and Sunday (18). DNIT technicians were on site and made an emergency repair, with the shoring of the beams.
