A 12-year-old teenager died after suffering an electrical discharge on the night of this Thursday (22) during the rain in the Portal da Alegria neighborhood, south of Teresina. José Carlos dos Santos Ribeiro was playing with friends at the Unified Arts and Sports Center (CEU). The suspicion is that he would have touched an energized pole.

The boy succumbed to his injuries and died instantly. The body was partially covered by the flood water and was rescued with the support of teams from the Fire Department, who went to the scene.

Civil Police experts were also at the scene to investigate the causes of the accident and what would have motivated the electric discharge suffered by the boy.

José Carlos dos Santos Ribeiro was a student at Escola Municipal Júlio Lopes, who issued a note of condolence regretting his early death.

Equatorial Piauí, the electric energy concessionaire, informed that the pole where the boy would have touched belongs to the public lighting network and that it is the responsibility of the Teresina City Hall.

In a statement, the Teresina City Hall mourned the death and sympathized with the young man’s family. The prefecture also informed that the accident site will undergo forensic examination to analyze the causes of the incident.
