Amazonas at ADCC – Portal Em Tempo

Manaus (AM)- It took place, this weekend, in the city of Las Vegas – United States, another edition of the Abu Dabhi Combat Club – ADCC Submission Fighting World Championship 2022, considered the biggest grappling event or ground fight in the world.

In this event all types of grappling and submissions met at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, in one day of open event and two days with the main fights, it took place from September 16th to 18th.

With an impeccable organization, with the participation of several athletes of the highest level, including the participation of UFC presenter, Bruce Buffer, in the finals of the event.

The ADCC created its own rules, in order not to favor any modality, being quite happy, we hardly see a bad or monotonous fight.

To participate in the event, athletes have three means: to have been on the podium in the previous event, to win one of the tryouts or to be invited by the event’s organization.

The tryouts take place on all continents, so it can be considered as the Olympics of ground fighting. As it could not be otherwise, the Amazon was present and shone.

In the open event, we highlight Lucas Pinheiro who has been proving to be a great competitor in the No Gi modality, packed with his last victory in Brazil, he also became champion.

It makes us very proud to say that in the main event Manaus was the city that had the most representatives, six Amazonians. We had the farewell of the super experienced and multi-champion Alexandre Ribeiro, who fought up to 88 kg.

Xande Ribeiro’s farewell

One of our biggest stars at the moment, Mica Galvão fought up to 77 kg and put up great fights, taking the silver medal, being stopped by Kade Ruotolo. This is a fight that we will surely see a rematch in another event as well as against his brother Tye Ruotolo, who won in the final of the gi world championship this year.

The second-placed Mica Galvão phenomenon

Up to 66 kg, our state had three representatives, and any one of them had every condition to emerge champion, Diego Pato, Fabricio Andrey and Diogo Reis.

Fabricio Andrey won in his first fight, the American phenomenon, Cole Abate, and in his second fight, according to the rules of the event, which allows athletes from the same team to face each other before the semifinals, he had to face Diogo Reis, he also made an incredible fight against the giant Vitor Hugo of 130 kg in the absolute.

Diego Pato had beautiful fights, falling in the semifinals, frustrating our fans in a final in Manaus, but he won the third place dispute against Joshua Cisneros, taking the bronze.

Diego Pato second place

Diogo Reis, our Baby Shark, won the final against, also Brazilian, Gabriel Souza, being our great champion and made a beautiful and emotional tribute to his teacher Melqui Galvão, who had the feat of classifying three athletes for this gigantic event.

In the women’s over 60 kg, our warrior Rafaela Guedes fought real battles and fell in the final to Amy Campo, taking silver.

Rafaela Guedes second place

We can certainly expect great fights for the next edition of the ADCC, which takes place in 2024, especially with the focus of many Amazonian athletes on participating in the competition.
