Twenty-two days after a woman took her uncle to an Itaú bank branch in Bangu (west zone of Rio) to take out a loan, with him already dead at the time of signing the documentation, this Wednesday, the 8th, a woman from 60 years old died after suffering a sudden illness in the same place.

The woman arrived at the agency shortly before 1 pm, with no apparent health problems. As soon as she entered, she felt sick. “All emergency protocols were immediately activated, including medical assistance,” said the bank, in a note.

The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was called, but when it arrived, the woman was already dead. The agency was closed, “out of respect for the victim, customers and employees”, according to Itaú. “The employees were welcomed and will receive all necessary psychological support”, concluded the bank.

Uncle Paulo

On April 16, Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42 years old, went to the same agency taking her uncle Paulo Roberto Braga, 68 years old, in a wheelchair, to take out a loan in his name worth R$17,000.

During the service, Érika spoke normally with Braga, who did not show any reaction. Samu was called and found that the elderly man was dead.

She was arrested – on May 2nd she left prison to face a trial in freedom – and is accused of attempted embezzlement and vilification of a corpse. She is still being investigated by the Rio Civil Police for manslaughter (unintentional), for taking her uncle to the bank at a time when he needed medical care.

Érika claims she didn’t realize her uncle was dead.
