The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, informed this Saturday (3) that there is a plan to expand the dengue vaccine. According to her, there was a meeting with Fiocruz and the Butantã Institute to discuss the measure.

The minister also said that there are epidemic situations in some Brazilian municipalities, but not at a national level (read more below).

“We had an important meeting with the director of Butantã and Fiocruz to expand vaccination — considering the vaccine already incorporated, Qdenga (…), and the Butantã vaccine (…). So, we will be working together. in the case of Fiocruz, not only with its own capacity, but also helping us organize possible private partners to expand the vaccine”, pointed out the minister.

To this end, daily meetings will be held with the aim of monitoring the epidemiological situation and response actions to the ongoing emergency. Thus, daily, weekly or monthly reports will be produced.

Regarding the scope of the epidemic, the minister clarified that it is concentrated in three regions of the country.

“We have epidemic situations in some municipalities, such as Rio de Janeiro, the Federal District, Acre, Minas Gerais, but dengue has a socio-environmental characteristic, that is, it depends on the mosquito factor and proliferation conditions. And, Now, we have a concentration in the Southeast, Central-West and South regions (plus the state of Paraná), but this does not characterize a national emergency, a national epidemic, but an epidemic at a local level”, said Nísia.

“These arriving doses, like all vaccines that arrive, go through an evaluation process at Anvisa, because they have to arrive within compliance, stability, a series of rules. The Fiocruz quality institute, once released, will be distributed within, of course, a prioritization based on that list of municipalities. We don’t have that definition today, but we will have it next week,” he signaled.
