These are areas linked to the functioning of the body, but which also influence the way individuals relate to each other.
The thousand days start counting from conception because, while still in the mother’s womb, babies are exposed to all the substances ingested, used or even inhaled by the pregnant woman, such as food, medicines, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and even polluting gases.
The experts consulted by the Einstein Agency explain that even the woman’s psychological state causes reactions in the fetus.
“Everything that happens, good and bad, has a very profound impact during the first thousand days of a baby’s life. Therefore, parents and caregivers need to be very careful during this period. Studies have already made it clear that it is possible to change the expression of genes through changes in attitudes and lifestyle habits. Genetics alone is not decisive. It is through habits, attitudes, diet and daily choices that we make in our daily lives that we determine our future”, he explains Daniel Becker, pediatric health specialist.
The specialist reminds that this period of baby care must begin before conception. “Three months beforehand, future parents can increase the possibility of having healthy children, influencing genes in a positive way by following good lifestyle habits and positive stimuli”, he adds.
According to experts, the main concern should be to ensure all the nutrients necessary for adequate neurodevelopment of the baby, such as proteins, zinc, iron, folic acid, as well as vitamins A, D, B12 and B6.
