AND

n 2019, according to the WHO (World Health Organization), almost 1 billion people live with a mental disorder in the world. In a revision carried out in 2022, the organization found that, only in the first year of the pandemic, the Depression and anxiety increased more than 25%. Even after the most critical moment of the crisis, the topic should be increasingly discussed. “People have woken up to the fact that without health, all other areas of our lives can be harmed”, says Fábio Camilo, psychology leader at Vittude, an online therapy platform. “And many companies have understood that it is people who bring results and that if they are not well, there is no productivity, but costs, whether financial or human.”

According to a report by the INSS (National Institute of Social Security), mental illness was one of the main reasons for leaving work in 2011. And 2014 was when January came to symbolize awareness on the subject, being baptized as White January.

Corporate world

White symbolizes a sheet on which changes and plans are projected. And January was the month chosen for being the first of the year. “This combination indicates a possibility of reflections and beginnings”, says Fábio.

In addition to White January, there is also Yellow September, another mental health awareness month. “It is a warning about the need to talk about suicide and promote knowledge that can lead people to better understand how to ask for help or offer it”, says Fábio. “Both campaigns deal with the inherent taboo of mental health and are of utmost importance, especially in a world still reeling from the consequences of the pandemic.”

Companies are where people spend most of their time. And more and more professionals are looking for a work model that does not occupy the central area of their lives.. “A company that does not invest in the well-being of human capital will end up becoming a place where people do not intend to be”, says Fábio.
