After reporting that Madonna had donated R$10 million to Rio Grande do Sul, which is suffering from the tragedy caused by the floods, columnist Erlan Bastos published a video on his social network to portray himself. In the errata, the journalist says that the person who made the donation was the bank that sponsored the pop star’s show, which took place on Copacabana Beach, last Saturday, May 4th.
“I came to recant and make an error. I had announced that Madonna had donated R$ 10 million to Rio Grande do Sul, but, in fact, the person who made this donation was her sponsoring bank, Itaú, divided into two parts. My source got confused, but I’m not going to blame the source. I was the one who gave rise to this news. I apologize for this.
The bank, in turn, had already confirmed in a press release a contribution of R$5 million for an action by the airline Azul, which pays for humanitarian flights with donations to the affected region. And another, also worth R$5 million, to the NGO União Brasil, which allocates resources to the victims.
