Actress Samara Felippo gave a statement this Tuesday morning, 30th, at the Police Station for Racial Crimes and Intolerance Offenses (Decradi), in São Paulo, about the case of racism that her 14-year-old daughter was a victim of at the high-end school. Vera Cruz, located in the West Zone of the city. The information was confirmed by the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) when Earth.

According to the SSP, investigations continue after the actress gives a statement and Decradi is awaiting the return of the letter sent to the school.

According to Samara, two 9th grade students took the teenager’s notebook, who is black, tore out some pages and wrote a racial slur on one of the pages. The notebook was later returned to the lost and found. The actress stated that she wants both of them expelled.

“Yes, I asked for the expulsion of the accused students, as I see no other alternative to a crime provided for by law and which the school insists on relativizing. It would be important for the safety and mental health of my daughter and other black and atypical students if they continue to attend school. It is not an isolated case, let that be clear”, he said in an interview with g1.

The actress reports that her daughter wanted to talk to the two students to try to understand the reason for the attack. “She was the one who asked for a meeting with the girls. She was super beautiful, dignified, strong, empowered, understand, right? Try to look them in the face, understand the reason for such an aggressive, violent act and explain to them that this is a crime , that she knows this is a crime”, he said.

After the case, the actress filed a police report and stated that she has not yet decided whether she will take her daughter out of school. “I’m still digesting everything and maybe I’ll never be able to, every time I look at her notebook or see her bent over the table redoing each page it hurts my soul. I cry. It’s a very painful cry. But now I’m crying with indignation too”, he added.

In a statement, Vera Cruz stated that Samara’s daughter sought out the teacher and grade advisor after recovering the notebook. “Actions were immediately carried out to welcome the student, to communicate with all students in the series, as well as their families. From the first moment, we maintained constant contact with the family of the student victim of this racist aggression, as well as remaining attentive so that she do not become too exposed and become a victim of further aggression. In the circular sent to all families on the same day, we asked that everyone talk to their children about what happened, and on Tuesday, April 23rd, two 9th grade students and their families attended the school, taking responsibility for their actions”, says the letter from the school.

The school also reported that the students were called to return the pages torn from their notebooks and receive official notification about the disciplinary measures to be taken, including indefinite suspension.

“The suspension will end when we understand that we have concluded our reflections on sanctions and reparations, which we continue to do – a fact also communicated to all families directly involved. We emphasize that other punitive measures may be taken, if we deem necessary after our intense educational debate, also considering the unequivocal fight against racism”, says the statement.

Student accused of racism will leave school

After the suspension, the father of one of the students involved in the racism case sent a message in a WhatsApp group with other guardians of the class and stated that he was going to take his daughter out of school. The conversation was obtained by the newspaper The globe.

According to the statement, the family said that they consider themselves “a progressive family” and that they “seek to evolve in anti-racist education.” They also stated that they apologized to the victim and family.

“Schools are microcosms of our structurally racist and violent society. We consider ourselves a progressive family, which for years has sought to walk and evolve in anti-racist education”, says an excerpt from the message.

They also wrote that they were “shocked” when their daughter said that it was she, among other friends, who carried out the act against Samara’s daughter.
