SBT is paralyzed with the death of a presenter in the early hours of this Wednesday (08)

The SBT News broadcaster was paralyzed this Wednesday morning (8) upon announcing the death of a famous and historic presenter, much loved by thousands of viewers, especially for his remarkable moments on the program ‘Aqui Agora’, in the 90s.

This is journalist João Leite Neto, 80 years old, who began his career in print newspapers and then moved to radio, eventually starting on television and acquiring tickets on the biggest broadcasters in the country. He was a reporter for SBT between 1991 and 1997, marking the lives of many generations.

Therefore, the famous man died this past Tuesday (7), in Curitiba. According to news reports, he was hospitalized for a month to treat cancer that started in his gallbladder. The journalist was in the ICU for the last week, suffered a cardiac arrest on the morning of November 7th and did not survive.

The death was announced by the family, who distributed a statement through friends announcing the departure of the presenter, who became famous in the 90s by anchoring famous police programs on TV, such as “Cidade Alerta” and “Aqui Agora”, on SBT.

“It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of renowned journalist João Leite Neto, former presenter of the program ‘Cidade Alerta’. João dedicated his life to journalism, informing and guiding the population with his charismatic voice and his passion for the truth. His legacy will endure in the memory of all those who followed his brilliant career and his tireless dedication to telling the stories that shape our world.”the family statement said.

João Leite Neto’s wake will take place in the capital of São Paulo, at the Morumbi Cemetery, this Wednesday (8), where friends, family and admirers will be able to pay their last mourning tributes.

What was the journalist’s career like?

João Leite also worked for Band, SBT and Globo. Since 2021, he has hosted Milk News TV, where he comments on political news. Furthermore, the presenter also had a political career. He was elected state deputy for São Paulo in 1978, and ran for the Senate twice, in 1994 and 1998.
