Abisague (Barbara França) will live happily next to Salomão (Guilherme Dellorto) for four decades in Reis. David’s son (Petronio Gontijo) will even dedicate his most beautiful verses — the Song of Songs — to the woman he loved most in his life. She, however, will not give him the long-awaited male child in Record’s biblical soap opera.
The Shunammite has already given two heirs to the king of Israel, Basemate (Maya Dias) and Tafate (Bella Roberth) in Cristiane Cardoso’s serial. Princesses are actually mentioned in the Christian Bible, in the first book of Kings. They are the only known sisters of Rehoboão (Henrique Camargo).
According to tradition, Solomon married 300 women and had 700 concubines to fulfill his dream of leaving 1,000 sons. God, however, punished him for allowing his companions to “worship idols.”
In the last chapters of Kings, the nobleman attracted divine wrath by allowing Nebset (Priscila Ubba) and Mazaab (Julianne Trevisol) to worship the Egyptian and Edomite gods respectively.
Guilherme Dellorto’s character will leave a single heir to the throne, Rehoboam, who is the result of his relationship with the Ammonite Naamá (Ingrid Conte). Historical records also indicate a son with the queen of Sheba — Menelique 1st, first emperor of Ethiopia, who is not mentioned in the Bible.
Abishag in the Bible
According to the Christian Bible, Abishag was one of David’s concubines. The king was already old when he looked for a virgin in the kingdom to serve him. He did not “know her” according to the scriptures, that is, he did not have relations with her.
Reis, however, has already taken some poetic liberties to help tell the story of the Kingdom of Israel. The young woman also brings elements of another biblical character, Shulamite — said to be King Solomon’s favorite.
Shulamite, in fact, is a reference to the queen’s origin. She came from the same region as Benaiah’s family, which has Shunammite origins.
