State of SP will build plant to transform salt water into drinkable water

The Basic Sanitation Company of the State of São Paulo (Sabesp) announced the construction of the first water desalination plant in Beautiful island. The municipality, which is surrounded by water as it is distributed in 19 islandsis also the city where residents have, proportionally, the least access to an adequate water supply in the state.

The notice published by Sabesp predicts that the plant will capture 40 liters of salt water per second, in addition to processing and releasing at least 20 liters per second of drinking water for 8 thousand inhabitants of the municipality, a number that represents almost a bedroom of the population.

The project will feature advanced technology reverse osmosis, a process used internationally. The desalinated water will be transported to a reservoir located at the Water Treatment Plant itself. (ETA) White Water, where it will be distributed for consumption by the population.

Sabesp defends the construction of the desalination plant because the amount of water from freshwater sources in Ilhabela is limited.
