Madonna’s show in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, 4, occupied the social networks of allies and supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) for different reasons. While Bolsonaro deputies and influential right-wing figures questioned the presentation, such as parliamentarians Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ) and Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ) and pastor Silas Malafaia, others were criticized for having enjoyed the day of celebration in the capital of Rio de Janeiro in a VIP area close to the stage where the American singer performed.

Senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC) was one of the targets of Bolsonaro activists on social media. The parliamentarian was criticized by allies of the former president for his presence alongside the governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro (PL) – one of the event’s financiers. Also present were Fábio Wajngarten, lawyer and former advisor to the president, the national president of União Brasil, Antonio Rueda, and federal deputy Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG).

In an audio released by the Metrópoles portal, the senator tells a friend that he went to the presentation at the request of his wife, Catiane Seif. “The show, my wife asked me. The artist she has followed since her youth, likes it, the woman is retiring, 40 years of career. She is ending her career. My wife, who is going through this terrible phase with me, terrible , said to me: ‘My husband, I would like to see the end of Madonna’s artistic career. Can you take me to Rio de Janeiro? Who would say no to his wife, man? I wouldn’t say no,” said the senator.

When contacted by Estadão, Seif did not want to comment on the criticism. The parliamentarian forwarded an interview of his to TV Senado in which he cited mitigation measures and help for those affected by the floods in Rio Grande do Sul. He was criticized for watching the presentation in the midst of the crisis caused by the rains in the south of the country.

In another part of the audio, Seif counters the criticism and cites measures he took to release resources to the State. “I signed the Senate proposal that the urgency will be raised this week to release amendment resources for parliamentarians and the government of Rio Grande do Sul to help people who are in need at the moment. I am helping there with the purchase of 15 boats inflatables for the Civil Defense and Fire Department. So, I don’t know if anyone has done more than me, but I’ve been moving whether I’m in Brasília, Santa Catarina or Rio de Janeiro.”

“I know. You can call me stupid, innocent, foolish. You can, you have every right, because I really didn’t see any evil. I imagined it was at a music show to listen to music. What did we do? I spent 40 minutes with she stood in front of the stage and when the horror show started we left. There’s a restaurant right next to where we stayed. We stayed there, we ate, we drank and then we left. another section.

In a post on “On the day babies were floating dead in RS, you took the time to thank Madonna by putting a photo of her on the big screen? A Christian thanking a Satanist? You are the definition of a lie,” she wrote.

An ally of Castro and Bolsonaro, deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante, who is part of the evangelical bench in the Chamber, contacted the Federal Public Ministry and the National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Conanda), in addition to forwarding a motion of repudiation to the Chamber of Deputies , for the “immoral acts carried out by the singer Madonna and all the other guest artists” at the show on Copacabana Beach.

“The iconic pop singer’s show in Rio de Janeiro, which promised to be a night of music and entertainment, ended up turning into a heated debate about the limits of artistic freedom and the country’s cultural values”, says the deputy in the representation.

According to the deputy, this type of spectacle “not only disrespects the Child and Adolescent Statute, but also compromises the healthy and adequate development of our young people.”

“Contemporary society has witnessed a gradual deterioration of its values and customs, to the detriment of the moral and religious precepts that underlie our civilization. Such deterioration directly impacts the family structure and the moral formation of our children and young people, who are the future of our nation”, he says.

A likely opponent of the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), in this year’s municipal elections, deputy Alexandre Ramagem made a series of criticisms of the cultural spectacle for “use of public money” and questioned “what is the construction or intellectual, moral or family” of the presentation

“The revolt is not against the artist Madonna, but because of the mockery of public money, paid by the population. City Hall talks about ‘mathematics’ to justify the unjustifiable show that could be financed entirely with private resources, while the people of Rio have so many other needs in the your daily life,” he wrote.

Governor Cláudio Castro, one of the hosts of the mega show, was also present in the VIP area of the stage set up on the sands of Copacabana. On social media, the head of the state Executive celebrated the “success of the party”.

“We delivered a memorable mega-event for RJ! Before, during and after: the coordinated action of the GovRJ secretariats and teams at Madonna’s show ensured peace of mind for the public that attended the queen of pop. We combine planning, technology and strategy to guarantee success of the MadonnaInRio operation. Very proud of our state as host of such a beautiful party”, he wrote.
