Bia Santana was successful on TV Globo screens when she gave life to the character Vic, in Elas por Elas. The 20-year-old girl even spoke about black representation in the station’s serials and her happiness in being able to have her own space so soon and inspire other girls. When contacted by the column, the president of the Rio Artists Union, Hugo Gross, confirmed that Bia Santana does not have the registration. Furthermore, according to him, not even a special authorization was requested by TV Globo for the young woman.

Hugo Gross emphasized that he had nothing against Bia Santana, but once again mentioned the importance of respecting the artistic category.
“I have nothing against the house, nothing against the directors, the institution, nor anything against this girl. Even because the law doesn’t prohibit working, we don’t want that. We just want respect for the category, artistic respect. Just ask for special authorization and explain why you are putting her on and not putting on so many other actors. That’s all,” he explained.
And he added: “Suddenly the girl sings, dances, tap dances, speaks English and they need it. So, that’s a good justification. But, suddenly, we also have people on our staff who are passing the hat and working and have a record. In this girl’s case, she has no record. She made the entire soap opera without registration, without authorization.”
The president of the Rio Artists Union also spoke about taking more drastic measures in these cases.
“Now what do we have to do? Go to court. It’s something the union doesn’t want. The union wants to exchange ideas, the union is here to talk, to dialogue. I think the law has to be respected, the memory of great artists has to be respected, that’s what makes the difference”, he said.
Then, Hugo Gross criticized the choice to cast influencers for soap operas.
“They want to shove it down society’s throats and grab influencers who are then talked about badly and put to the lion’s share. They apply without even having gone through a preparatory course. How many actors are hired there and participate in absolutely nothing? It has to end this. The union is here to take, from now on, very serious measures, appropriate within the courts”, he concluded.
