This Saturday, the 3rd, American guitarist Wayne Kramer, member of the iconic band MC5, passed away due to complications related to pancreatic cancer, as announced on his social networks. MC5, a pioneer of protopunk rock, was founded in 1964 in Detroit, with Kramer as guitarist until its dissolution in 1972.

Wayne Kramer became known not only for his contribution to MC5, but also for his troubled personal trajectory. In 1975, he was arrested for possession and sale of cocaine. After serving his sentence, he moved to New York, where he briefly joined the band Gang War, alongside former New York Dolls member Johnny Thunders.

In the 1980s, Kramer became involved with the band “Fats Deacon and the Dumbwaiters”. Additionally, he has played roles as a carpenter and collaborated with notable artists and music groups including GG Allin, Was, and Rage Against the Machine.

The year 1991 marked the reunion of MC5 in a memorial show, following the death of vocalist Rob Tyner in the same year. Three years later, Kramer began his solo career after signing a contract with Epitaph Records, releasing albums such as “The Hard Stuff”, in 1995.

Wayne Kramer’s departure leaves a significant mark on the history of rock and punk, recalling the MC5’s lasting influence on the music scene.
