Actor Jake Gyllenhaal found himself in the middle of a controversy this Thursday (1st). Filmmaker Thomas Bidegain accused the star of ruining the production of the film titled “Suddenly”, after exhibiting bizarre behavior. In an interview with Technikart, the director stated that he had to change plans for the film due to a series of demands from the artist.

According to Bidegain, Jake asked for constant changes to the film’s script eight weeks before recording began. During this period, film sets were already assembled in Iceland. The actor also reportedly demanded that one of the cars used was “neither red nor white”. Additionally, he requested that the set’s builders sleep in their cars to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

And do not stop there. Bidegain stated that Gyllenhaal stripped down to his underwear and dove into the freezing ocean while saying: “When I see the sea, I swim in the sea.” In the first rehearsal, the star imitated the voice of Pepé Le Pew, a Looney Tunes character, while reading the text. He still wanted a scene where he would slap a fish.

After these decisions, the filmmaker decided to make a French version of the film and refused to sell the script to Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby, who were initially going to star in the film and intended to continue the project. To NME, Studiocanal stated that the production did not work out because of “creative differences”.

However, this Friday (2) Variety released another interview with Bidegain in which the director went back on his allegations. The filmmaker reinforced the producer’s position and declared that the production did not happen due to creative differences, both with Jake and Vanessa. He guaranteed that there was no unprofessional behavior on the part of the stars.

According to Bidegain in a new version, the film was very early in the process, it was not being filmed or in pre-production. The first conversations about the project took place in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, so the creative team had only spoken via Zoom when Thomas presented the idea of getting together as a group in Iceland for a week to work on the film.
