São Paulo, April 26, 2024 – Azul, leader in flights and destinations in Brazil, confirmed today the receipt of 13 new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft, which will form part of its fleet, in an investment of more than R$3 billion. The equipment will be delivered over the next few months, until the end of the year. The announcement was made at Embraer’s headquarters, in São José dos Campos (SP), during the naming ceremony of an aircraft, which received the name Azul & Embraer. Pride of Brazil. The event was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and government ministers, as well as John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul, and Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer.

The purchase consolidates Azul in the operation of regional routes, in addition to representing a great boost for the national industry and the socioeconomic development of Brazil, allowing the company to operate in airports previously unserved in the country. Today, the company is the largest operator of Embraer’s latest generation jets, the E195-E2 model, and also has the largest purchase order for this Brazilian aircraft.

“More than consolidating Azul as the best airline in the world, this deal reinforces our confidence in Embraer and in Brazil. 15 years ago, Azul began its history by investing in Brazilian industry with the decision to operate Embraer equipment, and today we are fully aware that this successful investment by Azul also represents a strong economic and social contribution to the country. Each aircraft received generates around 500 new jobs, in addition to being, in the long term, a boost to Tourism, which today represents more than 8% of the country’s GDP and moves a large gear, ranging from the technician who tightens a screw on the plane fuselage in São José dos Campos (Embraer headquarters), to the food served in a restaurant in a tourist destination in the Northeast”, says John Rodgerson, CEO of Azul.

Embraer’s E2 has capacity for 136 Customers, and is the largest and most modern aircraft manufactured in Brazil. The equipment is the most efficient single-aisle model currently on the market, offering savings of up to 25% in CO2 emissions. Azul currently operates 20 aircraft of the same model, equipped with Wi-Fi and individual televisions.

The Brazilian company, which has contributed to Brazil’s socioeconomic development for 15 years, including having the country’s map printed on its aircraft, received the first E195-E2 manufactured by Embraer in 2019. Currently, in total, Azul has a fleet of 189 aircraft, including Embraer aircraft, in addition to large-capacity models used on international routes and those operated by Azul Conecta. The average age of the current fleet is one of the lowest in the world, at 7.4 years.

“The partnership between Embraer and Azul has been strategic for the development of national air transport, directly contributing to the generation of thousands of high-skilled jobs in Brazil,” said Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer. “The expected delivery of another 13 E195-E2 jets to Azul this year is another important demonstration of confidence in our aircraft, which is a global reference in quality, efficiency and sustainability.”

Azul currently operates in 160 destinations, including domestic and international routes, with more than 1,000 daily flights. The reinforcement of the E2 fleet increases the versatility of the company’s operations, as the Embraer jet has the capacity to operate not only in larger airports, but also in regional aerodromes, further away from large centers. “We live in a country of continental dimensions and we fly to places where no other company flies. This purchase is also an investment in the country’s growth and endorses Azul’s commitment to increasingly connecting Brazil. We are proud to be a Brazilian airline that flies Brazilian planes”, concludes Rodgerson.
