On the occasion, the president and the then governor of SP also took a ride in an open car through the automaker’s yard.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) recreated, this Friday (2.Feb.2024), a photo of the two of them in 2003 at the Volkswagen factory. At the time, they rode in an open car around the automaker’s facilities to celebrate the automaker’s 50th anniversary in Brazil, an act repeated now, around 20 years later.

Lula and Alckmin paraded in a Virtus model car, manufactured at the São Bernardo plant. The car was adapted by Volkswagen without the roof, as if it were a convertible, exclusively for the ceremony. This version is not sold on the market.

The manufacturer announced on Thursday (Feb 1st) that it will increase its investments in the country by R$9 billion by 2028, totaling R$16 billion with the value already included in the current cycle, of R$7 billion.

The company also reported that it will launch 16 vehicles in 4 years, including hybrid, 100% electric and “total flex”.
