Thoughts and Words is the first book to bring together opinion articles by professor Thiago Modenesi on various subjects, written over the last 10 years in the press, blogs, magazines, Portal Vermelho and other spaces, both in Brazil and abroad.
The work brings together almost 90 opinion articles on Education, Innovation, Politics and Comics, bringing analyses, reflections and opinions on important moments in these 4 themes. Thiago Modenesi is a professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco – UFPE, creator of Editora Quadricularando, specialized in publishing European and Latin American comic books, as well as theoretical books on the subject. The author has a degree in History, a Bachelor’s degree in Law, a Pedagogue, with a Specialization in Political Science, Teaching History and Modern Education, a Master’s Degree, a Doctorate and a Post-Doctorate in Education.
He has already published the books Educação para Abolição: cartoons and comics in the Second Reinado, Educating in the Republic: cartoons, cartoons and comics from Revista Illustrada, Politics and Cultural and Artistic Heritage – a little of what needs to be known (with the researchers Gutemberg Reurys and Sidelmar Alves), The Fantastic History of Comics – from the emergence to syndicates (1833 to 1967).
He also organized the works Comics and Education in 5 Points of View; Comics & Education, together with professor Amaro Braga (UFAL), which is already in the seventh volume; Politics, Education and Innovation, with professors Amaro Braga (UFAL) and Esdras Peixoto (UNIT); Overcoming the Crisis: challenge of the 21st century, with professor Juliana Araújo (UPE).
At the publisher Quadricularando he has already edited 13 comics, 4 books and 2 issues of the digital magazine Giby, which brings together comic artists and comics researchers in 21 countries in Latin America and Europe. Furthermore, he won the HQMix Trophy in 2012 with the work Educação para Abolição: cartoons and comic strips in the Second Kingdom, which is now in its third edition. He was also secretary of culture and sport in the city of Jaboatão dos Guararapes-PE and supervisor in the departments of Science and Technology and Culture in that state.
The book is an event, Thiago’s most personal and intimate, and therefore has very special guests to write the preface and postface: Luciana Santos, minister of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Lula government and Cida Pedrosa, award-winning writer Jabuti and poet.
